The Iranian Community of Manitoba hosted the 1390 Nowruz celebrations on Saturday March 19, 2011. There were 183 tickets sold for the event. The tickets sold included ICM Member, Non-Member and Kids tickets. In respect to all the Iranian and Canadian guests attending the celebrations, all the announcements were presented in Persian by Ms. Nobahar and in English by Mr. Saleh-Azad.
The night began by listening to Nowruz greeting sent by Canada’s Prime Minister, Honourable Stephen Harper. There was a musical performance by a young Iranian performer and Ms. Shemirani read a Nowruz poem for the guests.
One of the highlights of the night was the Magic show by the young magician “Gregoir”, who did a fantastic show, enjoyed by both the adults and the youngsters attending the celebrations. The Iranian Community of Manitoba decided to choose a new method of entertainment for this year’s Nowruz celebrations, and it seemed to fit all ages of the guests attending.
As history was unfolded this year and for the first time in the province of Manitoba, March 21, 2011 was proclaimed as Nowruz by the Premier of Manitoba, Honourable Greg Selinger, Iranian Community of Manitoba had the Honour to have the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Heritage, Honourable Flo Marcelino, to officially present this proclamation that night. It was an honour to have the Minister attending Nowruz celebrations.
The President of the Iranian Community of Manitoba, Mr. Kermani, gave the President’s
Message and also presented “Appreciation Letters” to the directors of First Board of the Iranian Community of Manitoba for their time, effort and dedication.
The celebrations ended with the Iranian dance and music.
The revenues generated for this event consist of ticket sales, totalling $5,910.00 as well as generous donations of $1,400.00, totalling $7,310.00. The expenses for the event include Banquet hall expenses of $6,839.71, program supply of $172.01 and ticket donations for the amount of $200.00, totalling $7,211.72. The Nowruz event was a successful event financially, as it resulted in a small profit of $98.28.
