On Saturday, October 29th, 2012, Iranian Community of Manitoba hosted the 3rd Annual Mehrgan Celebration in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This event was made possible with the help of our dedicated volunteers and sponsors.
This year the format was different than the previous years as the guests were catered with the popular kabob meal from one of the Iranian-cuisine restaurant. This year Winnipeg Harvest re-attended the event and received a significant amount of non-perishable food and monetary donations.
After the first hour of greeting and entertainment for children, dinner was served and Donald Benham on behalf of Winnipeg Harvest made a short presentation right after the dinner. As customary as always, a table decorated with symbolic items that signify the Iranian Festival of Mehrgan was set at the corner of the hall. The ICM president did a great job emceeing the event in both Farsi and English languages.
One of our Art & Culture committee members delivered a brief description of the origin of Mehrgan in English and depicted the epic tale of the creation of Mehr or Mitra, the goddess of light, friendship and love.
For the complete epic history of Mehrgan which was cited that evening, you can refer to the following link: History of Mehrgan
The evening continued with music & dance, thanks to our DJ up to late night.
On behalf of ICM board of directors, I would like to thank all our hard working volunteers who contributed to the success of this year’s Mehrgan and all the attendees for their continual support.
